When backing up the Hyper-V server and virtual machines online, you have two main options: place the copy agent on each computer (virtual machine and Hyper-V server) and back up over the network; Take a snapshot of the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) of the Hyper-V server and virtual machines.

Using a local agent allows you to back up virtual machines in the same way as physical ones, but copying it during execution creates an additional load on the Hyper-V server, and it is usually not even known that it is a virtual machine.

Note: If you are looking for where you can buy cartridges for printers and brother MFPs, for example TN-2085, then we recommend that you pay attention to the Hyper-V website that supports the VSS writer, which allows you to back up the Hyper-V server and all virtual machines from one running on the server agent.

This approach combines the best advantages of the two approaches in one solution and is the preferred backup method. Online backup of a running virtual machine can only be done for an operating system with installed integration services, and the number of such systems is limited to guest operating systems with the Volume Shadow Copy Service.

The configuration of Backup Integration Services must also be enabled in the virtual machine configuration. You can also back up virtual machines offline by shutting them down or maintaining the state of the virtual machines, and then making copies of these Hyper-V server files. Backing up shut down or saved machines is a simple process, but it is not supported for some server roles (such as Active Directory domain controllers).
